I enthusiastically support Brendan Mullen for Congress. Brendan, from his brave service to our country in the U.S. Army to his life contributing to the community as a successful small business owner, has shown the leadership and values so important to Hoosiers. Sadly, these values are now in much shorter supply in Washington than during my time there. Hoosiers need more Members like Brendan who can work across party lines and show true leadership on the whole range of challenges facing our country.

General Clark endorsed Brendan because of his service in the United States Army, as well as his commitment to common sense solutions and Hoosier values.

General Clark: “I am honored to endorse Capt. Brendan Mullen (Ret.). From his career at the United States Military Academy at West Point, to his time in Iraq and Korea, to his small business success helping veterans, he is exactly the type of solutions-oriented problem solver that we need so desperately to get our broken Congress back to work. I know what it means to serve. Career Politicians like Brendan’s opponent do not. Brendan Mullen will stand up for Hoosiers in Congress and help to get this country working again.”

Wabash, IN— Iraq Veteran and small businessman Brendan Mullen drove home his point tonight when he shared a stage with Career Politician Jackie Walorski and Libertarian Candidate Joe Ruiz, that Hoosiers deserve a calm and steady representative who has served in the U.S. Army and created jobs in the private sector. While Rep. Walorski tried to dodge her failed record of raising taxes, trying to privatize Social Security, selling the toll road and hiding under her desk during big votes, Mullen focused on his experiences solving problems and serving his country, in the Army, in business and as a father and husband.

Mullen: “I’m glad Representative Walorski finally appeared on a stage to answer questions from the public instead of hiding behind her deceptive, mean spirited campaign. Unlike Representative Walorski, I am running to put Hoosiers first. I helped start small businesses so I know how to create jobs and meet payroll, and I fought for our country and our freedom overseas. I will work for any idea that creates jobs, Democratic or Republican.”

With nearly 4,500 Contributions, Mullen’s Campaign to Take Hoosier Values to Washington Reports over $1 million raised

SOUTH BEND — Grassroots momentum continues to soar for Brendan Mullen’s fight for Hoosier values and good jobs, as the candidate for the Second District congressional seat announced raising more than $1,000,000 from nearly 3,000 supporters since the campaign began a year ago. Mullen reported raising $255,599.77 for the second quarter of 2012 alone, and currently has nearly $250,000 on hand.

“As we come down to the final days of this campaign I’m excited and inspired to have the support of so many dedicated friends and families who want to see our Hoosier values of hard work, fairness, and a strong middle class represented in Washington,” said Mullen, candidate for the Second District congressional seat. “We are building a grassroots campaign to take on special interests and overcome partisan finger-pointing so we can get on with the business of creating good jobs and solving the many other tough problems that face our state and our country as a whole.”

The South Bend native cited Hoosiers’ fatigue with “politics as usual” and their enthusiasm for an independent voice.

“Hoosiers want someone whose priority is to stand up for our middle-class families and protect seniors and Medicare, not millionaires and billionaires at the expense of everyone else,” Mullen said. “As a small businessman, veteran and father, I am deeply committed to serving our community and creating economic opportunity and a sound fiscal future for Indiana.”

SOUTH BEND — Brendan Mullen, South Bend Native and Small business owner, announced a coalition of businessmen and women supporting him, because they’re tired of career politicians in Washington who are more interested in partisan gamesmanship than solving problems. They know, we need smart business people who will work to solve problems and move our country forward.

South Bend Resident and small business owner Chris Bowman said: “Jackie Walorski has just launched an ad in which she lies about her record on Social Security. Her dishonorable, do whatever it takes to move her career forward attitude is exactly what’s wrong with Washington. I’m proud to support small business owner Brendan Mullen, because Congress is broken and we need a representative with small business experience to fix it.”

Mullen said: “I’m so proud of this outpouring of support from the business community. I got into this race for a simple reason. Washington is failing us. It’s failing me, it’s failing the business leaders here with me, and it’s failing my daughters and your children. I’ve balanced budgets, I’ve made payroll and I’ve provided health care. Send me to Washington and I’ll bring my business experience and Hoosier Values with me, and together, we’ll move our community, our state and our country forward.”

As an electrician’s mate in the Navy, Les saw his share of sparks fly. So when Jackie Walorski launched her most recent negative ads against Brendan, the longtime Republican knew it was time to step up.

“I just don’t like Jackie and I think her real persona came forward in these latest ads of hers,” he said. “Her first one tried to be sweet and innocent, and she said everything herself. But in these latest ads, she doesn’t say a word except ‘I’m Jackie Walorski and I approve this message.’ And, frankly, most of the message is a bunch of baloney.”

Les was stationed aboard a repair ship based in Norfolk, Va. from 1951 to 1953. He and his crewmates repaired and serviced ships from the Atlantic and Mediterranean fleets. Now retired from his position as Vice President of Purchasing with Liberty Homes Inc. in Goshen, he’s proud to have served his country, and he’s not happy with Walorski’s attacks against a fellow veteran.

“It just really turned me off the fact that she’s blasting a guy who’s done nothing but serve his country. And here she is calling him a Washington insider as if he’s in Obama’s hip pocket,” he said. “Brendan’s certainly not a Washington insider, but she sure seems to be trying to become one.”

But Les has seen these tactics before during Walorski’s previous failed run at the 2nd District seat, so her attacks on Brendan really don’t surprise him all that much.

“A leopard never changes its spots, and a pit bull never changes its growl. And that came out in these latest ads,” he said.

South Bend—Brendan Mullen, U.S. Army Combat Veteran and candidate for U.S. Congress, released the following statement honoring tomorrow, the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America:

“In June of 2001, I graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, never realizing how, only a few months later, my life and those of all Americans would forever change. Like many Americans, I remember exactly where I was when I heard about the attacks. I was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army completing my Officer Basic Course for the Army Corp of Engineering. I took a military exam early that morning and returned to my room, where I watched in horror as the second plane hit the south tower of the World Trade Center.”

“Out of respect for the anniversary of this atrocious event, my campaign will refrain from running political advertisements and soliciting voters on Tuesday. We ask that everyone take a moment, as we will, to celebrate in your own way the memories of those who lost their lives on 9/11 and in the ensuing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Walter “Bud” Ross served in the Air Force from 1980 to 1983 training personnel on the heavy equipment used to fight aircraft fires. His service took him to Korea, the Philippines and other countries, where he trained members of their armed forces in firefighting tactics as well.

It was a dream come true for the rural Marshall County man, who served as a firefighter/paramedic in his hometown of Buchanan, MI before joining the Air Force.

“I just loved it. It was a tremendous experience,” he said.

Yes, you could say fighting fires is in his blood. But something happened a couple of years ago that brought his blood to a boil.

At that time, Bud served as Commander for the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 42 in Plymouth. He happened to be participating in a parade and decided to introduce himself to the campaign manager for Jackie Walorski, who was making her first unsuccessful bid for the 2nd District congressional seat.

Bud handed her campaign manager his business card and recalls vividly what happened next: “He told me he had no use for veterans, and he tore up my card and threw it down,” he said, anger still resonating in his voice.

“I don’t vote for the party. I vote for the person. I have a tendency to speak my mind, and I have no use for the lady,” he said, referring to Walorski.

Bud currently served as 2nd Junior Vice Commander for the DAV in Indiana. He has spent a lot of time over the years working with Congressman Joe Donnelly, and looks forward to working with Brendan.

“I worked with Joe Donnelly on veterans’ issues, and when Brendan gets in I’ll do the same with him,” he said.

Among the issues he plans to address is transportation for vets in northern Indiana requiring visits to VA clinics and hospitals, especially those from LaPorte, who Bud says would rather come to South Bend or Fort Wayne for care instead of Crown Point and Chicago.

“We’ve also got to do more for our homeless vets,” he added. “We’re moving in the right direction, but there’s always more we could do.”

Bud made a point to stop by Democratic headquarters in South Bend recently to pick up some campaign signs.

“I took nine signs and I’m down to my last two. Those are in my yard, and I’m not giving them up!” he said.
